Hyderabad: The state government has started a caste census for two main reasons.

First, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi promised it during his election campaign. Second, the previous BRS government did not release the findings of the socio-economic survey they conducted.

Speaking to Hans India on Thursday, during his birthday celebrations, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy explained that even he did not have access to the data from the previous survey. Because of this, the current government has decided to carry out a new, more comprehensive survey. The CM said this survey would serve as a model for the entire country when the national caste census is conducted.

The new survey aims to collect detailed information about caste, religion, employment, education, and socio-economic conditions. This will help in implementing a quota system based on population data. When asked about the difficulties in changing the quota system without modifying the Constitution, the CM responded that the Constitution has been amended before and can be amended again if needed.

Regarding the controversy surrounding BRS working president K T Rama Rao (KTR) and the Formula E race, Revanth Reddy commented that KTR seems eager to go to jail, perhaps thinking it would help him become the Chief Minister. However, Revanth Reddy pointed out that KTR is currently competing with his cousin, Harish Rao, to become the party president.

The Chief Minister also made it clear that his government is not in favor of sending people to jail without proper investigation. He said the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) is following the legal process, seeking legal advice, and investigating the case. If KTR is found guilty of any wrongdoing, Revanth Reddy said no one could prevent him from going to jail.
