Hyderabad: Telangana Waqf Board Faces Crisis After CEO Replacement
The Telangana Waqf Board is once again facing a crisis after the High Court ordered the replacement of its CEO, Md. Asadullah. The court raised concerns about his qualifications for the role and questioned his continuation as CEO. Despite this, there is growing support for Asadullah, with many praising his integrity and efforts to protect valuable waqf properties from encroachment. Some are calling for the board to file a counter in the High Court defending his performance.
On Monday, representatives from various organizations gathered at Haj House to submit a memorandum to the Waqf Board. They urged the board to take steps to retain Asadullah’s services. The group, led by former MP Syed Aziz Pasha, waited to meet Waqf Board Chairman Syed Azmatullah Husseni, but he did not appear in his chambers. The representatives voiced concerns about the state of the board, alleging that managing committees of several mosques were being formed without proper elections. They claimed these committees have been operating illegally for 10 to 15 years.
Additionally, the representatives criticized the ongoing issue of waqf property encroachments, which they say began during the previous KCR government and continue to this day. Despite significant funds being spent, the Waqf Board is reportedly losing important properties in court battles. They called on the government to investigate all decisions made during the KCR regime and to take steps to ensure transparency in the current board’s operations.
