The government of Telangana has brought in specially trained cadaver dogs from Kerala to help find human remains in the SLBC tunnel. Eight workers were trapped inside the tunnel, and rescue efforts have been ongoing for 13 days. On Thursday, the dogs started searching for any possible remains of the workers.
Officials fear that the trapped workers may not have survived due to a lack of food and oxygen. To assist in the search, the Kerala government sent two trained cadaver dogs to Hyderabad. These dogs were flown in and taken to the tunnel on Thursday afternoon. While workers are actively clearing debris, no human remains have been found yet. The dogs will help locate any remains buried under the rubble and mud inside the tunnel.
A meeting was held with officials from the Kerala Special Police, Nagarkurnool District Collector Santosh Naik, and Disaster Management authorities. They discussed how to use the dogs effectively in the rescue operation.
Currently, a large team of 650 personnel from 12 specialized units, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Rat Hole Miners, and the National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI), is working nonstop to remove debris. Officials hope that the cadaver dogs will speed up the process of finding the trapped workers. In addition to the dogs, water jets are being used to clear mud around the tunnel boring machine.
