The State Cabinet meeting scheduled for Saturday was cancelled because the model code of conduct was still in effect. Officials told Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy that cabinet meetings couldn’t be held during this time. They wrote to the Election Commission asking for permission, but hadn’t received a response as of late Saturday evening.
The Chief Minister announced that a ministerial delegation would go to Delhi on Monday to request permission from the ECI for the cabinet meeting. The agenda included discussing issues like loan waivers for farmers, the NDSA’s interim report on damages to the Medigadda barrage, and repair work needed before the monsoon. The Chief Minister asked officials to prepare an action plan for repairing the damaged barrages, and a team including the CM and ministers may visit the sites soon.
He met with Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy to talk about the NDSA’s recommendations in its interim report. The NDSA had warned in 2019 about potential damage to the barrages. The government is now considering whether the repairs will be a permanent solution or just temporary fixes. A final decision will come after the NDSA submits a full report.
Experts believe that the measures suggested in the interim report are temporary, aimed at storing water this monsoon season to assist farmers during agriculture.
