Controversy Surrounding Anurag University and Nilima Medical College
Hyderabad: A controversy has erupted over the buildings of Anurag University and Nilima Medical College. The Pocharam IT Corridor Police have filed a First Information Report (FIR) against these institutions, which are owned by BRS leader Palla Rajeshwar Reddy. This action was taken at the request of Irrigation Department officials.
The main issue revolves around the location of these educational institutions. It is alleged that both Anurag University and Nilima Medical College are situated in a buffer zone. Specifically, the entire Survey number 813, which is in Venkatapur village in Ghatkesar Mandal of Medchal Malkajgiri District, falls within this buffer zone. The village has two lakes, Nadam Cheruvu and Venkatapuram Cheruvu, around which the controversy centers.
Villagers have raised concerns that the land where these institutions are located was previously used for farming. They also allege that the construction activities by Anurag University, including the building of a playground and basketball court, are obstructing the natural flow of water into the lakes. While there is some uncertainty about whether these lands officially fall within the buffer zone, the villagers believe that the constructions are disrupting the water flow.
The Irrigation Department has also lodged a complaint with the police, stating that two buildings of Nilima Institute are located within the Full Tank Level (FTL) area. Ganesh Naik, the state founder president of Nagara Bheri Lambadi Porata Samithi, had previously filed complaints with the Medchal Malkajgiri collector and irrigation officials, but when no action was taken, he approached the High Court. In anticipation of court directives, officials filed a complaint with the Pocharam IT Corridor Police Station against Anurag University and Palla Rajeshwar Reddy. The police have registered a case and are currently investigating the matter.
Another point of contention is the land around Nadam Cheruvu, which covers 60 acres within Survey numbers 813 to 816. According to an old village map, these lands fall under the FTL area. Recently, irrigation officials discovered that construction was taking place on this land for Nilima Medical College. Their ground report indicates that one to two acres of land have been encroached upon, and buildings are being constructed on it.
In response to these developments, BRS MLA Palla Rajeshwar Reddy has approached the High Court. He has filed a house motion, arguing that his family has been under attack for the past eight months. He also pointed out that the educational institutions were established 25 years ago. “The irrigation department, which initially granted permission, is now claiming that it was illegal,” said Rajeshwar Reddy.
