Telangana Government to Present Budget for 2025-26

The Telangana government is preparing to present its second full annual budget for the financial year 2025-26 on Wednesday. The budget will focus on both welfare schemes and development projects, aiming to attract support from rural and urban voters ahead of the upcoming local body elections.

The total budget is expected to be around ₹3.1 lakh crore, which is an increase from the ₹2.81 lakh crore allocated in the current financial year. A significant portion of the funds will be directed towards infrastructure projects and welfare initiatives to improve public services.

Before the budget is presented in the Assembly, State Finance Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka will seek approval from the state cabinet. This meeting will be led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy at the Assembly premises in the morning.

According to official sources, the government plans to increase funding for welfare schemes. This is in line with the Chief Minister’s recent decision to fulfill additional promises made during the elections. One such initiative, the Rajiv Yuva Vikasam self-employment scheme, was launched just two days before the budget presentation. The government is also considering the introduction of new schemes, with appropriate budgetary allocations.

The upcoming financial year will be crucial for the government as it coincides with local body elections, including municipal, Zilla Parishad, Mandal Parishad, and Panchayat Raj elections. Officials stated that the Chief Minister is keen on securing voter support by implementing new schemes and development programs that will have a direct impact on rural and urban communities.

The State Finance Department has conducted a detailed review to ensure that urban local bodies and gram panchayats receive adequate funding. Key sectors such as agriculture, irrigation, education, and women’s welfare will be given priority in the budget.

The irrigation department is expected to receive increased funding to support projects like the Tummidihatti project, which will be developed in collaboration with the Maharashtra government. Completing all pending irrigation projects is a priority, with an estimated ₹16,000 crore likely to be allocated for this sector.

Due to financial constraints, the government may allow corporations to seek loans to complete ongoing development projects under the Roads and Buildings and Municipal Administration departments. Additionally, welfare departments will be permitted to raise funds to introduce new schemes in the coming financial year.
