BRS MLA V Sunita Lakshma Reddy was upset with Speaker G Prasad Kumar’s remarks in the Assembly. She felt that he was not interested in listening and questioned how other members could hear amid the ongoing discussions from both sides.
When the House gathered to discuss various demands, Sunita Lakshma Reddy expressed her disappointment over the Speaker’s comments from the previous day. She stated that, as the Speaker, he had a duty to protect the rights of the members.
She mentioned that his remarks had caused her distress, as she had stayed on topic during the discussion and had waited from morning to evening for her turn to speak. She also pointed out that when her microphone was turned off, her party members had rightfully objected. She questioned the Speaker’s statement about not being interested in listening and emphasized that she had not used any inappropriate language.
Sunita Lakshma Reddy further stated that she always maintained discipline and had never been involved in any controversies. She added that she had come to the Assembly with the support of her constituents and was committed to respectful conduct. She requested that the Speaker withdraw his comments.
In response, Speaker Prasad Kumar explained that he had great respect for women, mentioning that he had eight sisters. He clarified that his comments were not directed at Sunita Lakshma Reddy personally but were made due to the ongoing discussions between different sides in the House. He also expressed regret if his words had hurt her and officially withdrew his remarks.
