Hyderabad: Police are investigating an attack on the Vikarabad District Collector and other officials by villagers at the proposed Pharma City. The incident occurred during a Grama Sabha (village meeting) held for land acquisition. The police suspect the involvement of leaders from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) party in the violence.
On Tuesday, State Additional Director General of Police Mahesh Bhagwat, along with a police team, visited the site to look into the role of anti-social elements in the attack. Police believe that Suresh, a close aide of senior BRS leader and former MLA Patnam Narendar Reddy, may have been the mastermind behind the violence.
The villagers reportedly threw stones at the officials’ vehicles, causing damage. State Director General of Police (DGP) Jitender has asked Mahesh Bhagwat to submit a report on the entire incident within a day or two to ensure swift action against those responsible.
It is believed that Suresh was in contact with both Narendar Reddy and BRS working president KT Rama Rao on the day of the incident. Police suspect that Suresh may have conspired to create a law and order issue before the Grama Sabha began.
A group of senior police officials from Vikarabad and the State police had earlier met with State IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu to brief him on the situation. After the meeting, the probe teams were sent to the villages to conduct further investigations.
Sources say that the possibility of filing cases against BRS leaders Narendar Reddy and Suresh cannot be ruled out. They also revealed that Suresh is already facing several charges, including a rape case in the district.
