The BRS party has urged the government to withdraw its current sand policy, claiming it violates environmental guidelines. They also demanded an Assembly inquiry, including party MLAs and the Speaker, into all transactions related to sand bookings and bulk orders for 2024-2025. The party believes this investigation will expose corruption.
At a press conference, BRS leader M. Krishank pointed out that the Telangana State Mineral Development Corporation (TSMDC) had issued an order requiring officials to work in three shifts—7 AM to 3 PM, 3 PM to 11 PM, and 11 PM to 7 AM. He argued that this violates environmental rules set by the Government of India, which allow sand mining only between 6 AM and 7 PM. Krishank questioned how TSMDC could officially permit 24-hour sand operations.
He further alleged that overloading and other illegal practices in sand mining continue unchecked. According to him, government revenue from sand mining has significantly dropped. During former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao’s rule, the state earned over ₹800 crore annually from sand mining, but now there is a sharp decline. He recalled that when Navjot Singh Sidhu, as a minister, visited Telangana, he praised the state’s mining policy and considered adopting it for Punjab.
Krishank also criticized the state government for changing five Managing Directors (MDs) of TSMDC in just one year. He claimed this frequent reshuffling reflects the disorder in the system. He accused the Congress-led government of replacing officials who refused to cooperate with corrupt leaders.
