The BRS members caused a commotion in the Assembly on Thursday. They demanded that CM A Revanth Reddy retract his comments about party MLAs Sabita Indra Reddy and Sunita Laxma Reddy.

The protesting BRS MLAs were detained by the police and taken to Telangana Bhavan, their party office. When the day’s session began, the MLAs came to the House wearing black badges. They sat in the well of the House, shouting slogans against the CM.

During this time, Legislative Affairs Minister D Sridhar Babu introduced the Young India Telangana Skill University (public-private partnership) Bill, 2024. Speaker G Prasad said he would let members speak after discussing the Bill, but the BRS members continued to protest, chanting slogans like “Tana shahi nahi chalega” and “CM down down.”

AIMIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi asked the Speaker to maintain order in the House. He suggested the government either allow the BRS members to speak or suspend them. “Either have the courage to give the mic or gather the courage to suspend them,” he stated.

Owaisi also mentioned that in the past, Speakers called agitating members to talk to them. “We came ready to discuss the Appropriation Bill, but it was passed without our input. You can’t take away our rights,” he added.

Sridhar Babu responded that the government would not suspend the members. He said the government was giving enough opportunities for debate and asked Owaisi to suggest that BRS members resume their seats.

BJP floor leader Maheshwar Reddy criticized the BRS members for their protest, saying it prevented discussion on the Appropriation Bill. In response, the BRS MLAs chanted slogans like “hai hai kya huwa… bade bhai chote bhai ek ho gaya” and “Bade Bhai, Chote Bhai.”

CPI’s K Sambasiva Rao also objected to the BRS members’ slogans, stating it deprived him of a chance to speak on the Appropriation Bill. He expressed sympathy for the two women MLAs and questioned if the comments were made deliberately. He suggested the Speaker adjourn the House, talk to members, and then proceed.

All the male BRS members walked out and staged a protest in front of the CM’s chambers, while the three female MLAs stood their ground. After standing for hours, they eventually left the House as well.
