In a GHMC Council meeting in Hyderabad, chaos erupted as BRS, Congress, BJP, and MIM Corporators got into a physical altercation on Saturday. The meeting started with BRS Corporators demanding the Mayor’s resignation for switching parties to Congress. They staged a protest with signs calling for GHMC Mayor G Vijayalakshmi to prove her majority.
The meeting was adjourned twice as Corporators surrounded the Mayor and GHMC Commissioner podiums, demanding answers about substandard water supply. They wanted HMWSSB MD Ashok Reddy to attend the meeting, despite the Commissioner explaining he was on sick leave. The demand for safe drinking water in their colonies continued amidst the chaos.
Accusations flew as BRS Corporators called the Mayor a turncoat, while she claimed she was forced to switch parties. The Mayor tried to restore order by appealing for silence, but the disruptions persisted. Plans for a no-confidence motion against the Mayor were discussed but ultimately failed to materialize.
As tensions rose, the Mayor eventually adjourned the meeting indefinitely, criticizing BRS members for their disruptive behavior. She also reprimanded members for not showing respect to the chair and GHMC Commissioner Amrapalikata, leading to further conflict within the meeting hall.
