BRS leaders in Hyderabad are accusing the government of violating protocol. Former Minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy protested by sitting on the floor after officials allegedly made Congress leader Kichannagari Lakshma Reddy sit on the dais during a cheque distribution event for Bonalu.
The issue has sparked criticism from BRS leaders. BRS working president KT Rama Rao wrote a letter to the Telangana Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad, pointing out ongoing protocol violations and the undermining of BRS MLAs’ rights since the Congress government came into power.
In the letter, Rama Rao expressed concern about a ‘troubling culture’ where opposition BRS MLAs’ rights were being deliberately ignored. He accused the Congress government of habitual protocol violations and unconstitutional behavior, which he said goes against democratic principles. During a Bonalu festival cheque distribution event, Sabita Indira Reddy sat on the floor while Lakshma Reddy sat on the dais.
KTR highlighted that during the BRS party’s tenure, such undemocratic practices were never seen, and elected MLAs were always respected. However, since the Congress party took office, BRS MLAs have been targeted with repeated protocol violations.
He mentioned specific instances like welfare scheme check distributions by Congress leaders instead of local MLAs and development works conducted without elected representatives present. Rama Rao called on the Speaker to protect legislative members’ rights and protocol, regardless of party affiliations, and urged immediate action to ensure BRS MLAs’ protocol is respected.
Harish Rao questioned whether there was no respect for a woman in the ‘Indiramma Rajyam,’ who has been a minister three times and an MLA five times. He asked if there was no value for a leader elected by the people.
