Hisar, February 25 – Former boxing world champion and Arjuna Award winner Saweety Boora has filed a dowry harassment case against her husband, Kabaddi player Deepak Hooda, a bronze medalist at the Asian Games. The complaint was lodged at the Hisar Women’s Police Station in Haryana, alleging physical abuse and financial demands by Hooda and his family.

Allegations of Dowry Harassment

According to Saweety Boora’s complaint, she faced domestic violence and harassment from her husband and in-laws due to dowry demands. She alleged that Hooda’s family assaulted her and pressured her for additional dowry, including a luxury car and cash. The FIR was registered on February 25, 2025, under relevant sections of the dowry and domestic violence laws.

Police Investigation and Hooda’s Response

The Hisar Women’s Police Station SHO, Seema, confirmed that Hooda has been served two notices for questioning, but he has not appeared yet. When contacted, Hooda claimed he was unable to attend due to health issues and cited suffering from a stroke. However, authorities are continuing their investigation.

Hooda, who contested the 2024 Haryana Assembly elections from the Meham constituency on a BJP ticket, faced defeat in the polls. He is a key member of India’s Kabaddi team, having won a gold medal in the 2016 South Asian Games and a bronze medal in the 2014 Asian Games. He has also been an active participant in the Pro Kabaddi League.

Legal Proceedings Continue

Officials have stated that further action will be taken based on the investigation findings. Meanwhile, Bora has chosen not to comment further on the case. The allegations have drawn attention, given Hooda’s sporting achievements and political aspirations.
