Many young people are stepping up to donate blood, even when their own family members hesitate. Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan commended these students and donors at a blood donation camp in Hyderabad. The event, held at Sultan-ul-Uloom College of Pharmacy on World Pharmacists Day, was organized by SUES and the Indian Red Cross Society.
Dr. Tamilisai expressed her appreciation for the large number of girls participating in the camp, and praised Sultan-ul-Uloom Education Society for their efforts in organizing blood donation camps. Over 300 people, including women, donated blood at this event. The Governor highlighted the crucial role of blood donation in saving lives and encouraged students to focus on producing affordable and effective drugs. She referred to aspiring pharmacists as those who give life to medicines and urged the use of generic medicines to save lives and money, especially for the public, including senior citizens and pensioners.
Dr. Tamilisai also emphasized the significance of blood donation, particularly when even close relatives are hesitant to donate. Ajay Mishra, chairman of the Indian Red Cross Blood Bank and former Additional Chief Secretary of Telangana, spoke about the potential of each unit of blood to save at least three lives. He also highlighted the annual deaths in the country due to blood shortages. The Telangana Chapter of the Indian Red Cross Society collects 4,000-5,000 units of blood annually, which accounts for about 10% of the total blood collected in the state.
The event was attended by Dr. Mohammed Waliullah, chairman of SUES, secretary of SUES Zafar Javeed, Aamer Javeed, Dr. Anupama Koneru (the principal of Sultan-ul-Uloom College of Pharmacy), and others.
