Hyderabad: BJP Spokesperson N V Subhash has criticized the double standards of the State government regarding the investigation into alleged corruption in the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP). He accused the Congress party of trying to protect the BRS ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

According to Subhash, the Telangana government withdrew its general consent for the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in October 2022. As a result, no inquiry can be ordered into the corruption allegations. Subhash’s comments were in response to statements made by Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy and Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar on Tuesday.

Subhash reiterated TS BJP chief Kishan Reddy’s statement that if the State government writes to the Centre for a CBI probe, the Centre will order an inquiry within hours. He pointed out that a CBI investigation can be completed quickly, unlike an inquiry by a sitting judge, which takes a long time. Subhash accused the Congress of deliberately delaying the restoration of general consent for the CBI investigation to form an alliance against the BJP in the Lok Sabha elections.

Subhash questioned why the Congress, which had previously demanded a CBI inquiry before the elections, is now hesitating to make a decision on restoring consent. He emphasized that the people can see through the true intentions of the ruling party.
