Hyderabad: BJP Legislative Party members met on Monday and criticized the state government for limiting the number of days for assembly sessions, similar to the BRS approach.

BJPLP leader Aleti Maheshwar Reddy mentioned that in United Andhra Pradesh, budget sessions used to last 45 days. Additionally, assembly sessions were held about 100 days out of the year, which gave legislators ample time to address people’s issues, discuss them, and find solutions.

However, Reddy noted that the previous BRS regime would conclude budget sessions in just four to five days and pass bills without proper discussions. He accused the BRS of undermining democracy by compromising the Assembly’s integrity. He recalled that there were times when the Assembly would hold a second session to discuss important issues late into the night. According to him, the BRS abandoned such traditions.

Reddy also alleged that the current Congress government is following the BRS’s footsteps by attempting to wrap up the upcoming budget session in just four to five days.

The BJPLP stated that people in the State see the BJP as a viable alternative to Congress, as evidenced by electing eight MPs in the recent Parliament elections. They asserted that the real opposition in the State Assembly is the BJP, not the BRS.
