Hyderabad: The Telangana BJP has issued a strong warning to the State government over its demolition drive against the homes of the poor. The party cautioned that such actions could turn the State into a battleground.

At a day-long protest, or “maha dharna,” held by the BJP at Indira Park on Friday, Union Minister of Coal and Mines and Telangana BJP Chief G. Kishan Reddy spoke out against the government. He warned that no amount of police force could stop the anger of the poor. He also mentioned that BJP members are fully prepared to take action, called ‘Kar Seva,’ if the government continues to target the homes of the poor in the name of the Musi Beautification project.

Kishan Reddy criticized the Congress-led State government, accusing it of acting in a dictatorial manner. He said the BJP organized the protest to stand up for the poor who are being targeted by the government. The BJP plans to visit every home in the Musi Riverfront areas to gather information and strengthen its protest efforts.

He urged the government to stop its decision to demolish the homes of the poor, warning that the consequences could be serious. Reddy mentioned that the BJP would work to block the government’s efforts at every step. He also criticized the government for spending Rs 1.5 lakh crore on the Musi River project while Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and metro water works are facing financial difficulties and the city lacks basic amenities.

Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar also spoke at the protest. He blamed the Congress party for the pollution of the Musi River, saying that their 50 years of rule allowed industries to pollute the river. He added that 90 percent of the residents in the Musi areas have built their homes on patta lands (legally owned land). Kumar also accused government officials of marking high-demand areas for demolition, calling it an unfair practice.

Malkajgiri MP Etala Rajender also criticized the Congress, claiming that they are more focused on giving contracts to Congress leader Sonia Gandhi’s son-in-law rather than building homes for the poor. BJP MPs, MLAs, and senior leaders from across Telangana participated in the protest.
