Hyderabad: BJP member Dhanpal Suryanarayana criticized the Telangana government on Tuesday, claiming that the state has become a hub for drugs. He alleged that Telangana is witnessing a rise in the sale of liquor, drugs, and ganja.
Speaking during a discussion on budget allocations for various departments in the Assembly, Suryanarayana pointed out that while the government promotes the slogan “Telangana Rising,” the reality is that the state is rising in liquor consumption and drug sales. He also mentioned a recent incident where a foreign national was caught selling illegal substances.
The BJP leader also demanded that the government introduce a scheme for Hindus similar to the Haj Yatra scheme for minorities. He suggested that the government should select at least 500 people each year and provide financial aid for the “Chaar Dhaam Yatra.” Additionally, he raised concerns about the increasing encroachment of temple lands and asked whether the government has accurate data on these encroachments. He noted that many temples in the state require funds for development and criticized the government for allocating only Rs 190 crore to the Endowment Department.
Suryanarayana further stated that while the central government is promoting sports through initiatives like “Khelo India Games” and “Fit India,” Telangana is falling behind in sports development. He argued that the low budget allocations for sports will not benefit athletes or the sports sector in the state. He urged the government to construct a mini-stadium on six acres of land at the district Collectorate to support sports development.
