Telangana BJP Questions State Government's Caste Census; Plans ‘BC Chaitanya Yatra’
The Telangana BJP has raised concerns about the state government’s plan to conduct a caste census, calling its intent suspicious. The party announced it would launch a ‘BC Chaitanya Yatra’ to pressure the Congress-led state government to fulfill its promises to the Backward Classes (BCs).
At an event commemorating the death anniversary of social reformer Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, senior BJP leaders criticized the state government for allegedly neglecting the BC community. Former MP Boora Narsaiah Goud, BJP state general secretary Kasam Venkateshwarlu, and BJP OBC Morcha state president Anand Goud accused the Congress of failing to deliver on its electoral commitments.
Kasam Venkateshwarlu highlighted Mahatma Phule’s contributions to social reform and upliftment of marginalized communities. He compared this legacy to the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government, which he said has prioritized the welfare of BCs, Scheduled Castes (SCs), and Scheduled Tribes (STs). Venkateshwarlu stated that 27% of positions in Modi’s cabinet are held by BCs, along with 17% for SCs and 9-10% for STs. He also emphasized the implementation of 27% reservation for BCs in central government jobs and institutions, as well as the constitutional recognition of the MBC (Most Backward Classes) Commission under Modi’s leadership.
In contrast, Venkateshwarlu criticized the Congress government in Telangana, led by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, for its handling of BC issues. He alleged that the caste census being initiated by the state government could be manipulated and questioned why the promised two parliamentary seats for BCs were not allocated. Additionally, he pointed out that only 11 seats in local corporations were reserved for SCs, STs, and BCs, falling short of expectations.
Boora Narsaiah Goud praised the BJP for elevating Narendra Modi, a leader from an OBC background, to the position of Prime Minister. He said this achievement aligns with Mahatma Phule’s ideals of empowering marginalized communities.
The BJP leaders reiterated their demand for the Congress government in Telangana to fulfill all promises made to BCs, SCs, and STs, and vowed to continue their fight for social justice through initiatives like the upcoming ‘BC Chaitanya Yatra.’
