Gadwal:
BJP District President Ramachandra Reddy has asked the Municipal Chairman and Commissioners to increase the number of wards in Aija Municipality. He wants the number of wards to go from 20 to 27. This request was made during the Aija Municipal Corporation’s full member meeting.
In 2012, Aija Gram Panchayat became a Municipal Panchayat with 20 wards. Back then, Aija town had about 14,000 urban voters and a population of around 28,000, according to the 2011 census. In the 2014 municipal elections, there were about 15,195 voters. By January 2020, this number rose to 20,082. Now, Aija town has around 25,000 voters. By January 2025, the voter count is expected to be over 26,000, and the town population might exceed 50,000 by 2024.
Despite the population growth from 2012 to 2024, the number of wards has stayed the same. Elections have been managed by adjusting the existing wards. However, some wards in Aija town now have 1,300-1,500 voters. Even though the voter count went up from 15,150 to 26,000, the number of wards did not change.
Increasing the number of wards would allow the state government to allocate more funds based on the additional wards. This proposal aims to increase the current 20 wards to 27, which would help distribute voters more evenly. This change is expected to improve governance and support the development of Aija town. The resolution was suggested to be adopted in the Aija Municipal Corporation’s full member meeting and brought to the state government’s attention.
The meeting was attended by Mandal President Gopal Krishna, District Leaders Medi Konda Bhim Sen Rao, Town General Secretary Pradeep Swami, Kampati Bhagat Reddy, Pinjara Ibrahim, Raghu, Veeresh Goud, Rajasekhar, Bheemesh, and others.
