Hyderabad: Union Minister of Coal and Mines, G Kishan Reddy, spoke about the important role played by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India’s first Home Minister, in uniting the country. He highlighted how Patel’s efforts helped merge 511 princely states into the Indian Union, which was a key step in strengthening the nation’s unity.
Reddy made these remarks while paying floral tributes to Patel’s statue near the State Assembly along with BJP leaders on the occasion of Ekta Diwas (Unity Day) on Tuesday. He mentioned that Patel led a historic battle to liberate Hyderabad from the rule of the Nizam, ensuring the protection of its citizens.
Patel played a key role in freeing Hyderabad from the Nizam’s control. Reddy explained that during the Nizam’s rule, the Nizam’s army and a group called the Razakars committed atrocities against Hindus, freedom fighters, and activists in the villages.
Thanks to Patel’s leadership, police action was taken against the Razakars, and they were defeated. The national flag was hoisted, and freedom was restored to the people of Telangana. Reddy emphasized that Sardar Patel will always hold a special place in the hearts of the people.
