Hyderabad: The Telangana BJP has criticized the State government for failing to support farmers by not buying their paddy and making unnecessary arrests. This has caused fear among villagers in the Kodangal Assembly Constituency.
On Tuesday, BJP State Vice-President Chintala Ramachandra Reddy and State General Secretary Dr. Kasam Venkateshwarlu spoke to the media. They raised concerns about the government taking away people’s lands for the proposed Pharma City without their agreement.
Ramachandra Reddy pointed out that farmers across the state are facing problems because they are not being given tokens at paddy procurement centers. He said that farmers have repeatedly complained about the government not waiving their loans and not buying their paddy.
He also mentioned that the former Chief Minister, K Chandrasekhar Rao, had earlier asked farmers not to grow superfine varieties of rice. Now, the Congress government is offering bonuses only for superfine rice. At the Narayankhed market yard, farmers are forced to guard their paddy piles day and night, hoping the government will buy their grain. In desperation, many farmers are selling their paddy to brokers for prices between Rs 1,700 and Rs 2,000, which is below the Minimum Support Price (MSP).
Dr. Venkateshwarlu criticized the Congress party, which had promised to deliver “People’s Governance,” for taking away the livelihoods of those who voted for them. He also called for a judicial inquiry into an incident that took place in the Kodangal constituency on Monday.
The BJP alleged that the government is trying to grab land from farmers for pharma companies in Dudyala Mandal, Vikarabad district, under the Kodangal constituency. Dr. Venkateshwarlu insisted that what happened on Monday was not an attack on officials. Even though the District Collector publicly stated that he was not attacked, cases were still filed against 50 villagers who were reportedly detained. He condemned the police for their actions, including imposing a complete shutdown and cutting off internet services.
