Hyderabad:
BJP MLA K Venkataramana Reddy has called for a house committee to investigate possible ‘irregularities’ in the power sector. He made this demand because both the ruling Congress and the BRS are accusing each other of corruption.
During a discussion on grants in the Legislative Assembly, Venkataramana pointed out that both parties claim there are no irregularities in the power sector under their rule. To clarify the situation, he suggested forming a House Committee for verification.
The Kamareddy MLA also proposed installing smart meters. These meters would allow consumers to recharge and use power according to their needs. Under the Ujwal Discom Assurance Yojana, smart meters for farmers’ pumpsets would help ensure accountability.
Venkataramana criticized the State governments for allegedly undermining the Union government’s efforts to install smart meters and misleading farmers. He suggested that the State government could support farmers by paying the recharge amount for these smart meters.
