Hyderabad: Dr. K Laxman, a BJP MP and the National President of BJP OBC Morcha, criticized senior IAS officer Smita Sabharwal’s remarks about differently-abled persons on social media.
Dr. Laxman stated on Tuesday that the comments made by Smita Sabharwal are serious and condemned them strongly. The issue arose after she posted on X, questioning whether an airline would hire a pilot with a disability or if people would trust a surgeon with a disability.
According to Dr. Laxman, these remarks hurt the feelings and self-esteem of differently-abled individuals. He stressed that such comments are harmful and inappropriate.
He also mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government introduced a law in 2016 that replaced the term ‘disabled’ with ‘Divyang’ to show respect and boost the morale and self-confidence of differently-abled people.
