Hyderabad: Telangana Congress President B Mahesh Kumar Goud criticized BJP leaders for not attending the BC Dharna at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. He said that those who did not support the protest have no right to speak about the welfare of Backward Castes.
Goud participated in the protest organized by the BC Welfare Association National Committee. He accused both BJP and BRS leaders of pretending to care about backward communities, but not taking real action to support them. He praised Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, who belongs to the Reddy community, for conducting the caste census in Telangana. Goud said the CM fulfilled Rahul Gandhi’s vision by completing the survey despite many challenges, and this made Telangana a model for the rest of the country.
He also highlighted that the Congress government made a major step by passing a bill in the Assembly to provide 42% reservation for Backward Castes. He said this decision set a strong example for the nation.
Goud accused BJP and BRS of working secretly together during the Lok Sabha and MLC elections. He said it was disappointing that even after the Congress promised 42% of local election tickets to BCs, the BRS and BJP remained silent on the matter.
He further claimed that the BJP is trying to change the Constitution and is not concerned about the poor and disadvantaged groups. He criticized the BJP for refusing to carry out a nationwide caste census and for attacking the Telangana Congress government, which completed the survey successfully.
Goud ended by urging Telangana BJP leaders to stop blaming Congress and instead convince their central leadership to support the 42% reservation for BCs, so justice can be done for backward communities.
