District Collector Rahul Sharma emphasized the life-saving importance of wearing helmets during a road safety awareness event on Friday. He urged motorists to follow road safety rules to prevent accidents and fatalities on the roads.

As part of National Road Safety Week, the Transport and Police departments jointly organized a helmet awareness motorcycle rally. Speaking at the event, the Collector stressed that wearing helmets significantly reduces the risk of fatalities in road accidents. He highlighted that, on average, 70% of road accident deaths in the country involve two-wheeler riders who were not wearing helmets. He called this statistic “very unfortunate” and urged riders to make helmet use mandatory.

In addition to helmet safety, the Collector encouraged all motorists to abide by road safety rules, including the use of seat belts for other vehicle drivers. He reminded everyone to think of their families while traveling and prioritize safe driving practices to ensure they reach their destinations unharmed.

The event served as an important reminder about the value of road safety measures and the need for collective responsibility in reducing accidents.
