Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Bhatti Vikramarka has criticized Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s comments about abolishing reservations for minorities. He said that Shah’s remarks go against the Indian Constitution. Bhatti added that the Congress government appointed a commission to remove inequalities and provide four percent reservation for the utmost backward minorities, which was later increased to 12 percent by the TRS government. However, the BJP said it would do away with the four percent reservation provided to minorities during the Congress government’s tenure.
Amit Shah also made comments about extending reservations to SC, ST, and BCs after removing it for minorities. Bhatti pointed out that the reservation for SC and ST was fixed in proportion to their population and approved by Parliament. He also said that the Supreme Court did not put a cap on reservations at 50 percent; it only said that a rational caste census should be carried out before implementing reservation.
Bhatti accused both the BJP and TRS of procrastinating on caste census and creating confusion for political gain. He also questioned why the BJP government is not taking action against corrupt TRS leaders, despite Amit Shah’s remarks about doing so.
Former MP Ponnam Prabhakar criticized the government for failing to purchase paddy and open paddy purchase centers. He also demanded immediate compensation for maize and mango farmers who suffered losses due to recent unseasonal rains and gale. Former MP Siricilla Rajaiah, Hanumakonda DCC president Naini Rajender Reddy, Wardhannapet in-charge Namindla Srinivas, and former mayor Errabelli Swarna were among others present.
