Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy has stated that the percentage of backward class (BC) population in Telangana has increased. He also accused the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) of spreading false information by misquoting statistics.

He criticized the opposition for misleading people with incorrect figures. He assured that the Congress government conducted a caste-based socio-economic survey with full transparency. This survey, which was completed within a year under the guidance of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, aimed to empower backward and marginalized communities.

In response to CPI MLA K Sambasiva Rao, Uttam Kumar Reddy explained that the Congress government carried out the survey to scientifically assess the socio-economic conditions of different communities. He dismissed the Intensive Household Survey (IHS) conducted by the BRS government in 2014, stating that its findings were never officially published. He also noted that some opposition MLAs were using figures from the 2014 survey, but as an MLA at that time, he confirmed that it was never recognized as an official document.

He reiterated that the BC population has increased while the percentage of the upper caste (OC) population has declined. He condemned the BRS for spreading false propaganda outside the Assembly and urged the opposition to stop misleading the public. Instead, he encouraged them to support initiatives that promote real social and economic justice.
