The Telangana government has allocated ₹11,405 crore for Backward Classes (BC) Welfare in its latest budget. This is a 24% increase compared to the previous financial year. The increase comes after a recent caste survey conducted in the state.
Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, during his budget speech, mentioned the Socio, Economic, Educational, Employment, Political, and Caste Survey carried out in November and December 2024. The survey revealed that 56% of Telangana’s population belongs to the BC category. He stated that the collected data would help in designing future welfare programs, reservations, and economic development policies for BC communities. He also emphasized that different departments are making significant budget allocations to support inclusive growth.
Apart from BC Welfare, the government has also allocated ₹40,232 crore for Scheduled Caste (SC) Welfare and ₹17,169 crore for Scheduled Tribe (ST) Welfare. The SC Welfare budget has increased by 21%, while the ST Welfare allocation has remained nearly the same as the previous year.
