In New Delhi, a group representing the Backward Classes (BCs) has expressed concerns about being neglected by the government. They stated that this neglect has led to a coalition government at the national level. On Friday, these organizations demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi either start counting the Backward Classes population or resign.
The BC organizations organized a protest in New Delhi on Friday to push for a BC census. Jajula Srinivas Goud, the National President of the BC Welfare Association, pointed out that the Congress party, which promised a caste census during elections, ended up as the opposition. He emphasized that the Prime Minister should gain respect from the backward class communities by initiating a caste census. Goud also urged the PM to abandon his anti-BC approach.
He further mentioned that, similar to how Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs) are categorized, the BC caste census should be conducted by the central government. Additionally, BC reservations should be increased based on their population numbers. He warned that if their demands are not met, they will start another movement similar to the Mandal Movement across the country.
