Munnuru Kapu Sangam Criticizes Caste Census in Telangana
Karimnagar: The caste census announced by the Telangana state government is flawed, according to Munnuru Kapu Sangam state president Konda Devaiah.
Speaking at a press conference at Karimnagar Press Bhavan on Saturday, Devaiah said the census data is incorrect. He pointed out that the government reported only 13.60 lakh Kapus in the state, while the actual number is around 30 lakh. He also claimed that a survey conducted in 2014 had recorded 28 lakh Munnuru Kapus, suggesting that the new figures are misleading.
Sangham leader Challa Harishankar also criticized the survey, stating that it was not conducted properly. He argued that the BC caste census is completely inaccurate and that 15 lakh people were not counted in the latest report.
Harishankar accused the Congress government of discriminating against the Backward Classes (BCs) because of their growing political influence. He alleged that the government is trying to suppress the rights of BCs.
He warned that if the survey is not redone, a large protest (dharna) will be held at Indira Park. Several Munnuru Kapu Sangam leaders, including Karimnagar district general secretary Naluwala Ravinder, State Munnuru Kapu Youth general secretary Sattineni Srinivas, and other leaders such as Avula Srinivas, Madam Sivakanth, Mahesh, and Shravan, participated in the meeting.
