The Telangana Assembly witnessed a heated debate between the Congress and BRS parties over the Telangana BCs, SCs, and STs (Reservation of Seats in Educational Institutions and Appointments in State Services) Bill, 2025. Both sides argued over the provisions included in the Bill.

BRS MLA Gangula Kamalakar criticized the Bill for not including a recommendation made by his party. In response, the ruling Congress members defended their decision, citing technical reasons. Supporting his fellow MLA, senior BRS leader T Harish Rao argued that the Bill should have included a 42% reservation for BCs in government contracts. He also highlighted that during the BRS government’s rule, they provided 50% reservations in various sectors, such as Marketing Committee chairman posts and wine shop allocations.

Countering Harish Rao’s claims, BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar questioned how government contracts could be included in a reservation Bill. He argued that the purpose of the Bill was to ensure justice for BCs and push for a law in Parliament regarding BC reservations. He also challenged Harish Rao on how the BRS party’s demands were relevant to the Bill under discussion.
