Hyderabad: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, has strongly criticized the police’s actions against Group-I aspirants. He claimed the Congress government in Telangana is making a mistake by targeting unemployed youth.
Speaking to the media in Karimnagar on Friday, Sanjay Kumar demanded the cancellation of GO No. 29, stating that it harms reservations for SC, ST, and OBC communities. He also warned Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy that some Congress leaders are waiting to remove him from his position, hoping the ongoing issues with Group-I candidates and unemployment will become a major controversy that could destabilize the government.
The minister called for immediate correction of the mistake made with the issuance of GO No. 29. He condemned the use of force by the police on the Group-I candidates, stating that the government should have shown more compassion. He questioned why the unemployed, who were allegedly dragged and beaten, were being treated this way.
Sanjay Kumar pointed out that many unemployed youth from different districts come to Hyderabad, spending large amounts of money on coaching for competitive exams. He said GO No. 29 has become a significant obstacle for these candidates and described it as a poorly thought-out decision by the Congress government.
He also questioned why the Group-I exams were not rescheduled. Despite being a Union Minister, Sanjay Kumar said he would support the Group-I candidates and the unemployed as an ordinary BJP worker, following instructions from the state BJP chief, G. Kishan Reddy.
Sanjay Kumar highlighted that Group-I posts have remained vacant for the past 10 years. He criticized both BRS and Congress for making false promises to the unemployed, accusing BRS of misleading the youth with fake job notifications. He called it shameful that BRS leader K.T. Rama Rao and his party are presenting themselves as champions of the unemployed.
On the Musi Riverfront Development Project (MRFDP), Sanjay Kumar accused the Congress of hypocrisy. He pointed out that Congress, along with Communists, had previously attacked former Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for seeking loans from the World Bank, yet now the Congress is seeking a loan from the same institution for the MRFDP.
He also mocked BRS leader KTR’s presentation on Musi development, calling it a joke. Sanjay Kumar questioned why BRS had not fulfilled its promises regarding the development of the Musi River.
Furthermore, he criticized HYDRA for causing panic by releasing survey numbers related to illegal layouts. He clarified that the BJP opposes the MRFDP unless the government first ensures proper rehabilitation and resettlement of the 11,000 families that would be affected by the project. Sanjay Kumar also pointed out that the government had collected stamp duty from people for registering plots and allowed construction, yet is now creating uncertainty.
