On Saturday, State BJP president Bandi Sanjay Kumar appeared before the State Women Commission to provide an explanation for his alleged derogatory comments against BRS leader and MLC K Kavitha. Sources indicate that the Commission was seriously concerned about the BJP leader’s use of foul language in disrespecting a woman leader. During the two-hour hearing, the Commission presented recorded videos of Sanjay’s comments against Kavitha and asked why action should not be taken against him for insulting a woman leader in a public programme.

In response, Sanjay submitted a letter to the Commission explaining that he made the comments without any strong intentions. However, the Commission also pointed out that Sanjay had not shown sufficient respect for women in his speeches. The constitutional body was not satisfied with Sanjay’s reply, and sources suggest that the Commission will summon him again before taking action.

It should be noted that the State Women Commission had issued notices to Sanjay on March 15, but he was unable to attend the hearing due to preoccupied programmes on the same day and Parliament session in New Delhi. The Commission has warned that strict action will be taken against anyone who makes derogatory remarks against women.
