Hyderabad Incident: Woman Assaulted in Auto-Rickshaw
A 29-year-old woman working in the software industry was reportedly raped by two men in Hyderabad. The incident took place in the early hours of Tuesday near Masjid Banda in Gachibowli.
The woman had just returned to Hyderabad from Chennai. She boarded an auto-rickshaw at Lingampally to go home. During the ride, an unknown young man joined the auto-rickshaw midway through the journey.
Once inside, both the auto driver and the young man allegedly threatened the woman with a knife and sexually assaulted her. After the assault, they left her at the same location where she had boarded and fled.
When the woman tried to call for help, one of the men attempted to strangle her. However, they ran away when they noticed a passerby approaching. They also stole her cash and ID card before fleeing.
The woman reported the incident to the Gachibowli police. Authorities have registered a case and started an investigation. Special teams have been formed to catch the suspects as quickly as possible. Police are also reviewing CCTV footage from the area to identify the attackers. It was noted that the auto-rickshaw did not have a license plate.
The victim was sent to the hospital for a medical examination. This is not the first time such an incident has occurred. In July, a similar case was reported in Alwal, where a woman was also raped by an auto driver and another man during late-night hours.
In the Alwal case, the auto driver offered to help a woman near a police station. During the ride, he picked up two men from a wine shop, who forced the woman to drink alcohol. The men then took her to a deserted area and sexually assaulted her inside a car.
These incidents have raised concerns about the safety of women using public transport in the city. Authorities are urging the public to stay cautious and report any suspicious activity immediately.
