The IT Minister, K Taraka Rama Rao, attended the closing ceremony of the District Police Games at Sircilla Mini Stadium on Tuesday. During the ceremony, he launched the Safe Auto App, which was designed by district SP Akhil Mahajan to ensure the safety and comfort of commuters.
The app works by collecting documents and information from vehicle owners of auto rickshaws and cab services in the district. This information is then digitized into a QR code. When a passenger scans this code while travelling in an auto rickshaw or cab, they will be shown the driver’s photo and details of the vehicle. There are also three options available on the app: Emergency Call or Text, Emergency Complaint, and Rating.
If a passenger feels unsafe, they can use the Emergency Call or Text option to immediately inform the nearest police station of their live location. Similarly, if a driver misbehaves with a passenger, or there is an incident of rash driving, drunk driving, or hit and run, a complaint can be filed through the app. Passengers can also rate the vehicle they are travelling in.
The presence of this QR code should prevent crime and reassure passengers that they will reach their destination safely. The minister praised the district police system for implementing this new safety measure.
