Contract Assistant Professors from 12 Telangana universities protested at Education Minister Sabita Indra Reddy’s house. They want their services to be made regular and have been protesting for 25 days. The minister assured them that the government is positive about regularizing their services and that a Cabinet sub-committee will discuss the issue and submit a report to the Chief Minister by Wednesday. The protesters agreed to wait for 10 more days for a decision. If the government fails to act, they will intensify their agitation by organizing a series of programs, starting with a pen-down strike, followed by indefinite relay hunger and ‘VantaVarpu.’ Finally, an indefinite strike will bring the closing of academic activities across the State universities to halt.
