The TPCC (Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee) is facing a dilemma on whether to finalize the list of candidates for the Assembly elections or wait for the special session of Parliament to be over. Despite this, both the state and national committees met and are proceeding with the scrutiny of candidates. The Pradesh Executive Committee (PEC), chaired by A Revanth Reddy, has shortlisted three potential candidates for each Assembly segment.
While some sources suggest that the Congress is close to finalizing the first list of candidates and may announce the names within a week, others believe that the announcement might be postponed until the special session of Parliament concludes. To prepare for any situation, the TPCC is considering two different candidate lists: one for the Assembly elections as scheduled and another in case the ‘one nation one election’ (ONOE) proposal becomes inevitable.
The state-level committee is actively selecting candidates and will hold meetings with the AICC’s screening committee for Telangana. Currently, the PEC has finalized candidates for about 24 Assembly segments and will soon make decisions for the remaining segments. Over a thousand applications were received from aspiring candidates for the 119 seats of the Telangana Assembly, with a few constituencies having only one application.
K Muralidharan, the chairman of the screening committee for Telangana, will be visiting Hyderabad for four days to receive the list of selected aspirants from the PEC. The screening committee will also meet with other committee members and important leaders, as well as the recommended aspirants. They will discuss strategies and important factors like socio-political equations in each constituency that may influence voting patterns.
