Asha workers gathered at the Collectorate in Asifabad on Wednesday to demand higher salaries and job security. They staged a protest, calling for better pay and permanent employment.
Responding to a call from their state committee, Asha workers from across the district arrived in large numbers. They protested at both the main gate and another entrance behind the Collectorate. The workers raised slogans against the government, expressing their frustration.
Collectorate employees stopped the protesters from entering the premises. Soon after, police, led by ASP Chittaranjan, arrived at the scene. A brief scuffle broke out between the women police officers and the Asha workers, leading to a heated argument.
The protesters insisted that the Collector should personally address their concerns and provide a clear assurance regarding their demands.
Due to the protest, the work at the Collectorate was disrupted. People who had come to the office for various tasks had to return home disappointed.
