Asaduddin Owaisi, a four-time winner from the Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency, is now campaigning for his fifth term in Hyderabad. Other candidates from parties like Congress, BJP, and BRS are not as active in Old City areas like Bahadurpura, Yakutpura, and Karwan, where there are many minority votes.
The other contenders, such as Madhavi Latha from BJP, Gaddam Srinivas Reddy from BRS, and Amjedullah Khan from MBT, are not campaigning as actively on the ground compared to Asaduddin Owaisi’s party, MIM. Congress has yet to announce their candidate for the election.
Asaduddin Owaisi is currently campaigning for candidates in other seats like Kishangunj and Aurangabad while his party’s MLAs and corporators are rallying support for him in Hyderabad. His party leaders are urging constituents to vote for MIM and have been conducting traditional paidal daura with hundreds of people chanting slogans in support of Owaisi.
In Hyderabad, Asad’s brother Akbaruddin Owaisi, a star campaigner for MIM, was seen campaigning in the Goshamahal area, which is considered a stronghold of BJP’s Raja Singh. Akbaruddin urged residents to support MIM in the upcoming elections and emphasized their party slogan “our work is our identity.”
Political analyst Asif Hussain Sohail noted that the other contenders in Hyderabad seem low-key, with the BJP candidate focusing more on self-promotion through criticism rather than substantive opposition. He also mentioned that the Congress party has yet to announce its candidate for the election.
The MIM has maintained a strong hold on the Hyderabad Lok Sabha seat for over four decades now. With a majority of voters being Muslims, the Congress, BJP, and BRS candidates often serve as friendly opponents or aim to split the Hindu votes in the constituency.
