Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, has announced that the electric carmaker will be coming to India as soon as possible. This news comes after a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is currently visiting the US. The Indian government has invited Musk to explore investment opportunities in electric mobility and commercial space. Musk called himself a “fan of Mr Modi” and said that India has more promise than any other country.
Tesla’s original plans to open a base in India were halted last year after the Indian government insisted that Tesla make cars locally, while the carmaker wanted to test demand by exporting to India first. Musk stated that he is trying to figure out the right timing for Tesla to come to India.
Musk also expressed his hope to bring Starlink satellite internet service, operated by his company SpaceX, to India. He stated that it would be a significant investment in their relationship with India.
