Lt Rekha Singh has been commissioned as an officer in the Army Ordnance Corps, responsible for providing material and logistical support to the force in case of a war. She completed her training at the Officers Training Academy in Chennai and has been posted to a frontline unit in eastern Ladakh. Her husband, Naik Deepak Singh, was killed in the Galwan Valley clashes with Chinese troops in June 2020 and was posthumously awarded the Vir Chakra for his bravery in rendering medical support to injured soldiers during the clashes.
Lt Rekha Singh’s husband was from the Army Medical Corps and was attached to the 16th Battalion of Bihar Regiment. The 29-year-old Rekha has followed her husband’s footsteps and joined the Army. The Indian Army tweeted about her commissioning as an officer and congratulated her.
The officials said that Lt Rekha Singh has been deployed to a frontline unit in eastern Ladakh, where she will provide material and logistical support to the force. She will carry forward the legacy of her late husband and serve the nation with bravery and dedication.
