Army jawans from the Golconda base in Hyderabad recently participated in a marathon event and received praise from their seniors for their performance. These young athletes, who are in their early 20s and have won national medals, are constantly pushing themselves to achieve new goals. Out of a team of 10, seven were able to complete the full marathon of 42 km within the specified time of 2.4 hours in the elite category.
The top performer, Pankaj Dhaka, finished the marathon in an impressive time of 2.32 hours. Three other athletes also successfully completed the half-marathon within 1.2 hours in the elite category. The team’s head coach, Subedar Surender Kumar Mavi, proudly mentioned that their B team had previously won the NMDC marathon in August. One of the team members, Bahadur Budha from Nepal, also emerged as the top finisher in the half-marathon category.
Despite initially planning to leave for Bengaluru, the team decided to participate in the marathon. They regularly practice in Bengaluru and other cities to improve their skills. Shortly after receiving their awards, the team received phone calls from their superiors congratulating them on their achievements.
