Andhra Pradesh Speaker Thammineni Seetharam has called a meeting for YSRCP and TDP MLAs who switched parties in the state over the past four-and-a-half years. The meeting will take place on January 29, 2024, and the MLAs have been ordered to attend. Those who do not attend may face consequences.
Earlier this week, notices were sent to eight MLAs, and the Legislative Council chairman has also sent notices to two MLCs.
The notices were sent to YSRCP rebel MLAs Mekapati Chandrasekhar Reddy, Undavalli Sridevi, Anam Ramanarayan Reddy, and Kotam Reddy Sridhar Reddy, who joined the TDP. Notices were also sent to TDP rebel MLAs Vallabhaneni Vamsi, Karanam Balaram, Vasupalli Ganesh, and Maddali Giridhar, who switched to the YSRCP.
The defected MLAs have been given seven days to provide an explanation for why they changed parties. If they fail to provide valid reasons, they may be disqualified from their positions in the Assembly.
