Hyderabad police have registered a case against Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh K Narayana Swamy for allegedly making derogatory comments about Congress leader Sonia Gandhi. The case was filed at Begum Bazar police station based on a complaint by Telangana state Congress committee vice-president Mallu Ravi.
Narayana Swamy had made comments linking Sonia Gandhi to the death of former Andhra Pradesh chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy in a helicopter crash. Mallu Ravi and other leaders had lodged a complaint last week, which was then entered by the police and sent for legal opinion.
After receiving legal advice and analyzing video footage of Narayana Swamy’s comments, the police registered a case under sections 504 and 505 (2) of the Indian Penal Code. These sections pertain to intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace and statements conducing to public mischief.
Narayana Swamy repeated his comments following Mallu Ravi’s complaint. He claimed that not only he, but the entire population of Andhra Pradesh has doubts about the helicopter crash that killed YSR. He also accused TDP president and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Sonia Gandhi of being behind YSR’s death. YSR, who was the father of the current Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, died in a helicopter crash on September 2, 2009, when he was the chief minister of undivided AP.
