The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, decided to change the name of the Health University in Vijayawada to NTR Health University. This decision was made during a meeting on Monday.
The university was originally established in 1986 by the State Government and was named NTR University to consolidate all medical departments under one roof. In 2006, former Chief Minister YSR Rajashekhar Reddy approved the name change to Dr. YSR Health University. However, under the administration of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, the university’s name was changed back to Dr. NTR Health University.
Minister Kolusu Parthasarathy explained that many doctors who graduated from the university had raised concerns about discrepancies in their marksheets. Some marksheets bore the name Dr. NTR Health University, while others had Dr. YSR Health University. In response to these concerns, the AP cabinet decided to revert the name back to Dr. NTR Health University.
