Gandipet | “The Usman Sagar Lake in Gandipet is already being developed beautifully. The government has handed over 70 acres of government land to the HM&DA for the construction of a magnificent view park. It is known that the view park has been built at a cost of Rs. 36 crore. Similarly, in the modern style, the HM&DA has initiated activities to expand the Usman Sagar Lake area by 70 acres near the Hussain Sagar Lake with an astonishing budget of Rs. 1.77 crore for fencing,” said the HM&DA authorities.

City Bureau, June 24 (Namaste Telangana): Gandipet, a part of the Hussain Sagar Lake in the historical city of Hyderabad, has been witnessing rapid development as per the government’s plans. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HM&DA) has already built a magnificent view park at a cost of Rs. 36 crore, offering breathtaking views. In addition, they have started activities for the expansion of the Usman Sagar Lake area by 70 acres, with an investment of Rs. 1.77 crore for fencing.

HM&DA has taken up the task of constructing the park in a modern style. Survey number 18 and 45 have been allocated for approximately 70 acres of land. The current unused land beneath the Gandipet cheruvu has been transformed into a tourist center by the Telangana government.

The area is currently filled with weeds, shrubs, and bushes. To develop this land into a complete park, necessary measures have been taken by the HM&DA. Tenders have been invited to install fencing around the first section at the bottom of the Gandipet cheruvu. The authorities have decided on July 3 as the deadline for finalizing the tenders submitted on June 19. After evaluating the received tenders, the fencing work using chain links will be carried out by eligible contractors. Once the land is fully secured, further decisions regarding the construction of the park will be made after conducting a digital survey and inspecting the boundaries, bushes, and other structures.

HM&DA has been given the responsibility to complete the development of Gandipet cheruvu. In 1920, during the reign of the seventh Nizam, Osman Ali Khan, the Usman Sagar Lake (Gandipet cheruvu) was constructed on the Musi River near Musi Varadal. To protect the city from floods during the monsoon season, this reservoir was built with the technical assistance of renowned engineer Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya. As part of preserving water for the city, the Telangana government recently handed over Gandipet to HM&DA as a tourist center.

Apart from safeguarding the Gandipet cheruvu, plans have been proposed to build a 46 km-long walking and cycling track. If the view park is fully developed with an investment of Rs. 36 crore, it will create a vibrant atmosphere. As per the proposal, a cycling track and walking track should be constructed around the Gandipet cheruvu. The HM&DA has already initiated activities for the expansion of 70 acres of land located in the lower part of Gandipet for various recreational purposes, which should be transformed into a park with biodiversity, as suggested by K.T. Rama Rao, Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development.
