A ragging incident at Andhra University has caused controversy and led to strict disciplinary actions. Senior students allegedly forced first-year female students to perform inappropriate dances. They recorded videos of these acts and shared them in WhatsApp groups. The university administration stepped in after the incident became public and started an investigation.
The incident reportedly involved second-year architecture students. They pressured first-year students to dance inappropriately inside their hostel room. When the juniors said they didn’t know how to dance, they were told to learn from male students. After recording the videos, the seniors shared them in WhatsApp groups, where other senior students commented on them.
The first-year students were initially afraid to report the harassment to their professors. They feared that speaking up would lead to more mistreatment from the seniors. Unsure of what to do, some of them approached the media. This brought the issue to public attention, which prompted the college to take action.
As a result, the college administration suspended ten students for 15 days. The university has reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards ragging and plans to enforce stricter measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
