The Andhra Pradesh Government will start distributing ‘YSR Kanuka Pensions’ in two ways from April 3, 2024. Instead of volunteers delivering pensions to people’s homes, the pensions will now be given at village or ward secretariats for those who can go there, while special arrangements will be made for the elderly, disabled, and sick.
A circular from the Panchayat and Rural Development Department announced that volunteers can no longer distribute cash benefits like pensions. The government will use other methods like electronic transfers or government employees to distribute benefits during elections.
To ensure a smooth transition without disrupting pension distribution, the Chief Secretary held a video conference with District Collectors. They discussed options like electronic payments, distributing pensions at secretariats, and ensuring pensioners can visit at their convenience.
The government decided that distributing pensions at secretariats is the best option due to various challenges. They will provide necessary equipment and staff at secretariats, extend working hours, and communicate the new process clearly to pensioners.
However, pensions will still be delivered door-to-door to certain vulnerable groups like the disabled and bedridden individuals. Village and ward secretariats will be open from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm daily until all pensions are distributed, with arrangements made for pensioners’ comfort.
