Andhra Pradesh has set a new record for postal ballot applications for the upcoming Assembly and Lok Sabha elections. Around 5 lakh applications were received from government staff assigned to election duty, with 4.50 lakh coming from government employees and the rest from Anganwadi workers and other personnel.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) made arrangements for government employees on election duty to vote through postal ballots on May 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th. The elections for 175 Assembly and 25 Lok Sabha seats were scheduled for May 13.

In 2019, approximately one lakh government employees voted via postal ballots, but nearly 59,000 were declared invalid.
